Adding meta tags

Hi guys 🙂

I'm new to all this so go easy on me. My question is;

Which file do I need to add my meta tags into and how? I'm using Nuke 6.5.

Depends what you mean by stupid. The file you need to add your meta tags into is the file that you plan on publishing on the web.

Thanks for your reply Norman. The problem is I'm really new to all this web stuff. I already have my website up and running Here

However, I'm unsure exactly which PHP file I need to add the meta tags too (as there are several), or even exactly how I should do it (correct syntax). I'm basically a bit of a techno retard at this stuff but hell! it makes it more of a challenge 😃 Any advice on this meta tag tag/keyword business would be appreciated 🙂

looking at the page source for your site i see this

looks like the meta tags are already added ? unless you're talking about something else

Ahhhhh brilliant! Those appear to be generic tags that came with PHP though, so it looks like I'll easily be able to add my own, that are closer related to the content of my site.

The only question now then, is which PHP file would it be that contains that code? Or would it be index.html??

We always go easy on newbies - some of us are still newbies. I suggest you buy a book about HTML/XHTML - I recommend either Wrox Press (the red books) or O'Reilly (HTML/XHTML - The Definitive Guide, now in its 5th edition). Study your HTML and check out the W3C recommendations and guidelines at http://www.w3c.org. You will then understand what meta tags are and how to place them.

This is a prerequisite for being able to write PHP. PHP is a server-side scripting language. What you see in the browser is HTML, which means that PHP writes to HTML ... which means that any HTML you want has to be included in the PHP file which creates what the client browser displays. I recommend you buy a book on PHP for beginners. Good examples are published by the companies SAMS, Wrox Press, New Riders and O'Reilly. You can't use PHP Nuke or any of the other PHP-based CMS packages to good effect unless you understand what they are doing.

In the meantime though, surely someone knows which file in php Nuke 6.5 I need to alter. Viewing the html source, it seems very clear but I cant find this corresponding code in any of my files 😕

Its in the 'Includes' folder and is rather handily name meta.php

Next question is; can I alter with ftp on the server or do I need to edit locally and then upload...

So I dont just add my keywords to the list? I know about including upper and lower case versions etc.

Could someone view the source here and let me know if I've done anything glaringly wrong with my keywords?
