PDF / DOC file protection

I'm sure this gets asked a lot and I searched through so I apologize in advance 🙂

I have a password protected site using PHP and mysql. The trouble is that I need to protect other documents of different formats. How can this be done? I only have ftp access. It is a unix box. There is a file called passwdfile but i'm not sure if I need to do anything with that or not.

RIght now people can just type in the address to the pdf or doc file and it displays. I need to safeguard this.

hmmm...

the quickest thing you could do is put passwords in the doc and pdf files...you can do that with acrobat (not the reader) and word...

other file protection...i don't have a fast solution for you there...sorry...but i'm sure it's very possible...

How do you put a password in a doc or pdf file? Is there documentation on this somewhere? I dont necessarily need a quick fix to it.
