which mcrypt cipher to use?

Hi there,

Does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of different mcrypt ciphers? There's Blowfish, 3DES, Twofish, Enigma, Panama, Rijndael, and about a million others. Having no experience with any of them, the choice seems pretty arbitrary.

Rijndael is the cipher chosen for AES.
Triple DES has been tried and tested, and still seems ok.
Blowfish is quite commonly used too, I think.
Twofish is sort of a successor to Blowfish, but it is less tested.

Actually, all the ciphers listed are probably ok to use, it just depends on your implementation.

I would use Rijndael because it is AES, but that doesnt necessarily make it superior to the others.
