pointing to a file

Is it somehow different in PHP how you make calls to files?

I'm using

include("/folder/file.php");
but am unable to get to the file. I get an error:

Warning: main() [function.main]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/folder/file.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/domains/mydomain.com) in /var/www/domains/mydomain.com/folder/thispage.php on line 4

Strangly the images show ok using the same reference...

Any ideas?

try droping the /

include("folder/file.php"); 

or use

include("../folder/file.php");
