Auth Return Page help

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a good way that when a user tries to access a protected page, when he's re-reouted to the login page, once logged in it takes him back to where he was trying to get to.

Right now, using mySQL and sessions, only registered sessions are allowed to access pages. If a user tries to just type it in, he goes back to the home page and once logging in, it just takes him to the front page. I want him to redirect back to the place that sent him to my login page ONLY if my website sent him there.

Any ideas?

Before redirecting:

$_SESSION['ref']=$PHP_SELF;

After logon:

Something like this would do the trick.

That seems to work really great. Only one problem, say this is my link:

http://www.mydomain.org/documentmanager/index.php?&path=AMT%2FAMT-09/

the $PHP_SELF only seems to recognize documentmanager/index.php as the referrer and I need the &path= etc.

Any idea how to capture those variables that of course will change depending on the page? I guess I need to capture the location and anything in the address bar that follows it.

Start a session in the protected page, and add this line

$_SESSION['portected_page']=$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

This will store that protected page in the session variable, and then redirect to the user to the login page...

and after that you can redirect to the user to the page that he was trying to access 😃

Thanks - that looks good - but I don't understand it. Would it be possible for you to explain that again a little more for dummies 🙂 and how does this affect the post above that is currently implemtented now? Does this replace what PyroX showed me to do, or work with it?

All he is saying is replace:

$_SESSION['ref']=$PHP_SELF;

With:

$SESSION['ref']=$SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

In my example.

The $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; should contain everything you need.
