okay.. i'm installing php on a new reformated hard drive
i installed win2k pro, setup apache 1.3.27
php 4.3.2, mysql 4..

now, i remebered i have to edit the httpd.conf
so i check out TFM..
and i found out this...

Installing PHP for Apache as CGI binary


  If you wish to install PHP as a CGI binary, read this first:

    [url]http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-1996-11.html[/url]

  and then if you are really sure, insert these lines to your conf file: 

   ScriptAlias /php/ "c:/php/"
   AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
   Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"

now.. why do they do not recommend this...??


another problem is that...
my old server (before reformat) using the same set up as above
recognize $_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] as the file name..
example, test.php or bla.php

but now.. it reconize it as /php/php.exe

why???

one last question...

what is a sapi anyway...
i wanna try to install as module,
see whats the diffrent..
but i cant find the darn .dll needed for the http.conf

Hi,

installing php as cgi (php.exe) might cause some security problems. The sapi version of php is the module version that you can also use with apache (sapi=module).

Since php.exe is executed every time you request a php script, the script name would always be php.exe.

To install php as module do the following:

Remove the

ScriptAlias /php/ "c:/php/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"

lines from the httpd.conf. If you installed the installer version of php uninstall it and download the zip file from php.net.

unzip it so that the contents are in c:/php (c:/php/extensions and so on).

copy the php4ts.dll to your system32 directory and also copy all contents of the dlls directory to system32 (to be able to activate some of the extensions). Copy php.ini-dist to the winnt directory and name it php.ini.

Now edit the httpd.conf and add the following lines:

LoadModule php4_module c:/php/sapi/php4apache.dll
AddModule mod_php4.c
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

LoadModule and AddModule should be inserted where the other lines of that kind are. Then restart apache and php should work 🙂

(and $_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] should work as expected 🙂 )

but i'm having trouble getting my php application to work on lan
via apache webserver..
this happen as i reformated the pc..

i have a pc as test server, where i develop my application
the configuration and component are as mentioned above..

now, i cant figure out how to reach my application
thru another pc..
i have 3 pc, 1 laptop, hocked up to a switch
using 10/100 ethernet cable..
eaxh with a static ip assigned..

i can ping my test server using other pc,
but when i type in my ip on the other pc i a web browser..
hoping that it would reach my application on the apache (test svr)
i get a 'page not found' error..

i set up the server name to my test svr static ip
and i set up ServerRoot to my apache htdocs..
owh, and port 80

anything i did wrong??

anyway, thanks for helping me out on the earlier case..

Hi,

you're some kind of right, I like Unix/Linux more than Windows 🙂

But I did also many WAMP installs (W98/ME/NT/2K/XP).

Since you get a 'page not found' and not a 'server not found' it must have something to do with the setup of your DocumentRoot in the httpd.conf. The fact that you can send a request to the server at all is the good news.

Can you post the httpd.conf and tell me which directory you chose as DocumentRoot ? if it contains spaces you might run into troubles. But I'd like to see your httpd.conf to see if there's something wrong with it 🙂

Another suggestion:

if you used Notepad to save the file it might have been saved as scriptname.php.txt so apache can't find it. Check that one 🙂

On a freshly installed system the file settings are not to display the extensions of known file types so it might look like scriptname.php in the explorer.

just to tell u that..
i can actually access my .php using my test svr browser
(thanks 2 u.. my php works like it supposed to.. 🙂 )
by accessing it's own ip..
but since it's local, i dont think it matter...

now.. the problem is to access my webserver via LAN..
so as requested..
here's my httpd.conf

hope u can check out whats wrong with it...

Hi,

did you really get a 'file not found' error or a 'server not found' error ? Look at the access_log and the error_log to see if there are any messages about not being able to find a file or to see if there are any requests from the remote client at all.

from any pc hoocked up in my lan..

i got inspired to really read all the line in the httpd.conf

and i tweak here and there..
including the last part..
where the <virtualHost> is...

i change it to my ip.. setup the doc root..
and voila.. webserver up n runnin..
