displaying search term in results

i have a searchable database set up using php/MySQL, which works ok.
i would like to be able to put a line of text somewhere on the page which says

xxxx documents found using the search term " "

how can i get the results page to echo the query string?

Hi,
I can't understand so well, but may be xxxx is equals to mysql_num_rows($result).
For query string just use $QUERY_STRING...
