history.go and hta

I placed a history.go javascript call in a regular html file (href="javascript:history.go(-1)") and it works just fine. But when I save the file as an hta file, it fails to work. Any ideas?

HTA? What is that?

Also, how is it "not working"? Could it be that you haven't defined the extension for HTA on your webserver, and it's treating it as something else (plain text, most likely)?

Either mordecai and I, and probably a lot of others, are behind in different laguages. Or you are ahead of us. 🙂
I have never ever heard of hta. What's it stand for?

"Behind in different languages"? Nah, I know about 10 programming languages, but I've still never heard of an HTA. I'm gonna Google it.

Okay, it's an IE-only file extention. It's a "Hypertext Application" or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Application, and is a .hta rather than .htm*.

Still don't know the problem, though.

Well then...if hta is an IE only extension, why even use it? It only makes sense to use html which works in all browsers. I guess the only thing that hta is good for is if you want to force your users to use IE.

Now the only thing I see wrong with your code below that may cause problems, is this:

(href="javascript:history.go(-1)")

Should have an "A" in front of href. I don't know if this was a typo or not.

Are you talking about an htaccess file, kindley? I think the problem is that you put in javascript. I doubt that the .htaccess file reads javascript correctly, but I do not know for sure.

Well as soon as I posted, I got an idea.

What you should do is create a file that contains the history.go(-2) statement. And in the htaccess file, put the path to that file. I'm not sure, but I believe that this would work:

onload=history.go(-2);

</script>

Aren't .hta files downloadable websites, comlete with all code required? well then, it would make sense that it would only be one page per file, and therefor there wouldn't BE a history. So my thinking is that it just wont work. But that's just me..............:rolleyes:

Yep. hta is an "application" browswer file in IE. It is useful to me in an application I am developing, as it allows me to remove all toolbars and borders on the viewed page.

I think I found my answer, however.

Don't know, since not so great at java. Got an example? I am trying to make the window look like an acutal app - that is no browser related stuff with the window- but operate in a browswer. The app is basically a data entry scheme.

well actually, hta is an application file that runs on html coding and uses internet explorer as its core. its actually run by microsoft script application host (the same thing that runs vbscript and javascript) and is designed for those who find it easier to make a program in html code, instead of C or something like that (at least thats what I understand).
