ok i asked my host about the gdbm funtions with PHP, and they said that they dont allow them, does anybody know of a server (free preferably) that i could use the GNU database manager

I think you should use a "real" DB administration tool like PhpMyAdmin, MySQL Control Center... There's an exhaustive list on MySQL.com.
