PHP vs ASP?

(Don't know if this goes here, but here goes.)

I was asked that question today, and the only answer I could give, was that ASP was aimed more at Microsofts platform, whilst PHP is cross platform compatible.

Can anyone tell me the major differences between PHP and ASP?

That's a big one. Just like most other MS products, they don't want you to be able to use it on anything except other MS products.

Of course, then there's the little things like completely different language, syntax, strucutre, logic, etc.,etc.... 😉

I've searched the msg board, but no really clear answer on the major differences between ASP and PHP.
I guess that is because there ARE not clear answers to the questions.

I've summerized this though:
1) PHP is unstable on IIS and NT platforms. (minus)
2) PHP runst best with MySQL and Apache.
3) ASP is tailored for the Windows platform as ASP.NET is for the .NET platform. (plus)
4) PHP and ASP has no major execution (time) differences
5) PHP is free (plus)
6) For beginners, PHP is easier to get into than ASP.

But I still haven't found discussions on what makes PHP so powerfull contra ASP.
