[Resolved] PHP Arrays not working

I've declared an array of a list of Provinces:

$province_array[] = "British Columbia";
$province_array[] = "Alberta";
$province_array[] = "Saskatchewan";
$province_array[] = "Manitoba";
$province_array[] = "Ontario";
$province_array[] = "Quebec";
$province_array[] = "P.E.I.";
$province_array[] = "Newfoundland";
$province_array[] = "Nova Scotia";
$province_array[] = "New Brunswick";
$province_array[] = "Yukon";
$province_array[] = "Northwest Territories";
$province_array[] = "Nunavut";

I am then looping through the array for a <select> menu:

<select name="Province" size=1>
	<?php

            $num_provinces = count($province_array);
for ($i=0;$i<$num_provinces;$i++) {
			echo "<option value=\"" . $province_array[$i] . "\">" . $province_array[$i] . "</option>";
}	
?>
</select>

The stupid thing is, it comes out as a blank list of selections and values. It is counting them, but it is not outputting the array values. Any ideas?

Not very strong in arrays, but.. Don't you need to identify the key too?

$province_array[0] = "British Columbia";
$province_array[1] = "Alberta";
$province_array[2] = "Saskatchewan";
$province_array[3] = "Manitoba";
$province_array[4] = "Ontario";
$province_array[5] = "Quebec";
$province_array[6] = "P.E.I.";
$province_array[7] = "Newfoundland";
$province_array[8] = "Nova Scotia";
$province_array[9] = "New Brunswick";
$province_array[10] = "Yukon";
$province_array[11] = "Northwest Territories";
$province_array[12] = "Nunavut";

you could try this

$province = array("state1","state2");

print "$province[2]";

....
That would be the code for arrays.Why so complicated..

first of all, he said he fixed it, so why keep posting? btw, to the Original Poster: there is a link at the bottom of each thread for the starter to mark the thread resolved. it would probably be a good idea to do that with this one 🙂.

anyway, i think his problem was that he hadn't stated that the variable was an array like so:

$province_array = array();

but seeing as he fixed it, why bother even asking?

P.S.:from one canadian to another, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and the Yukon technically aren't provinces. but who REALLY cares?:rolleyes:

Actually, No! That's the great thing about PHP -- it's incredibly flexible! PHP will automatically start the index at 0 and increment the pointer for every additional arrary element in that array.

Like I said, I already figured out the problem. It actually had something to do with a different snippet of code that I left out of this thread.
