hey ho all -

I'm wanting to create a search function for a forum that has many threads and replies to them.

I immediately thought of opening each entry and doing an eregi() on them, but this doesn't seem particularly efficient.

I'd be very appreciative if someone with a bit more experience in this would let me know their thoughts on the matter.

What database are you using? MySQL has a fulltext flag that you can use with MATCH syntax. www.mysql.com .
This means you can do the search at the database level using the query, rather than your application. I think this is the common solution to your type of problem.
