enabling password in mysql

EDIT: I have since discovered that actually the password is only disable on the computer I host mysql on. However, is there any way to set MySQL to require a password even from the host computer? thanks.

well... nobody answered my previous post. so I've figured it out a bit more and come to the conclusion that, somehow,My MySQL password is not enabled. I came to this conclusion by testing and finding out that, no matter what I set my password to in my My.INI file, the only way it would let a program login is if it gave no password.

so...does anyone have any ideas on enabling my password?

I'm running XP by the way.

Get phpMyAdmin and use it to add/edit users. The only other way to do this is to open a command prompt and deal directrly with the MySQL db called mysql, not the ini file.
