This is not strictly php, but I figured someone might know. I have apache installed on my computer and I recently registered a domain name, lets call it www.abc.com . I want to host my own website from my apache server here, not have someone else doing it, how would i go about doing that now
Well firstly you will need to have cable.
And you will need to learn about virtualhosts. Im not too sure on how you do it but you can goto http://tutorialforums.com and search for Hosting Site on computer or something similar. There was something like that quite a while ago.
first, do u have static ip then do u have 24x7 connection to internet. what OS are u going to use to put the apache online.
anyway, this thread should be in echo lounge... 🙁
Get a static IP. Get a router. Using the router, forward all inbound packets destined for port 80 to your machine running the webserver.
That's pretty much it.. easy stuff.
Its on windows 2000. Do I obtain a static IP from my isp which is roadrunner and what exactly is a router, i have a general concept, but it is hardware or software.
A router is hardware
Read: http://foldoc.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/foldoc.cgi?query=router
road runner doesn't offer static ip's to residential customers anyway, so that is out of the question. If my site is www.abc.com, what would be a good domain hosting company to host my website using my web address. I would obviously need something that understands sql and php and can contain lots of data around 2 gigs
perhaps a search using google can let u compare the host with price and ... much more.
You can get a dynamic ip redirecting service, which would update your domain name with your dynamic IP so visitors are redirected to your home machine. Many such companies available. just check Google.
