if you are using any Microsoft Office suite of Exel. You have the option to save the file as a CSV. Then once you do that. Go into your phpMyAdmin and use the CSV file to dump the data into the mysql database. It works. I had to do it a while back for a client that was using exel as thier database and wanted to upgrade and use php/mysql.
You will have to change the "terminate field by" are, but I cannto remember what it should be. Play around with it and you will eventually get it.
