search a field starting with number or special characters?

how can i search a table field starting with the characters that are not in
the 26 English letters list?

I am building up a glossary, starting with A, B...Z which are all fine.

Now I am facing this block that how about starting with the numbers or "-",
"*", i am going to put them in one group, that is all the fields that
starting with non 26 English letters.

How the SQL should be?

Use regular expressions - most dbms will support that as part of the sql query.
