learning PHP / MySQL or not?

I am a newbie. Good w/ computers, bad in programming 😉
I am about to set up a site w/ PHP and MySQL (at a web hotel). Whether or not I should do the work or just the thinking is not decided, so could someone please help me:

Which is the "best" online manual for a newbie?
Which is the best book / course material?
Is there an online course somewhere anyone knows of?
If I should get someone to make my site, where could I start looking for good programmers (not "professionally" paid?

Hard to say, I would advise you to search this messageboard for more info.

Online course?
I would advise getting a book for the basics, then work with the PHP Manual.

For programming help, it is good if you learn too.
Maybe you could get to know a few of the lunatics here, and they might be willing to help you at some point (after you're a little crazy too)

Here is a good tutorial which helped me, but I still need to get deeper into it. I easily forget things like operators & stuff.

Cdresor you might want to check out the Beginning PHP4 book by Wrox and when you get better move to the Professional PHP4 book by Wrox. The wrox books are old and they out of bussness but can get you started and give you a good knowledge of php however, it is old and they use register_globals on in their examples which makes it so you need to make changes to the examples. But it is a very good book to get you started if you can still find it as they just went out of buisness. :rolleyes:
