News tutorial

Anyone know of a good tutorial I can read/follow to build a news management script that allows me to:

Update news from a secure site.
Have the most recent news story as the headline.
Have the next 5 or so, as links in a certain place on the site.
Have a link to an archive with a complete list of past news items.
