[Resolved] Undefined function: imagecopyresampled

I have just started trying to manipulate pics with PHP but my FreeBSD 4.8 machine reports the error 'undefined function' when I use either imagecopyresized or imagecopysampled. I had the same problem on my windows machine until I enabled the GD extension in PHP.INI. However, it still does not work on FreeBSD when making the same changes to PHP.INI.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

yes indeed, i just encountered this problem.

so may i know what version of php r u using?
i suggest u use at least PHP 4.2, to make those function available
and work u need download some file from GD website and compile it under *nix.

below instruction is from php manual

You can use the image functions in PHP to get the size of JPEG, GIF, PNG, SWF, TIFF and JPEG2000 images, and if you have the GD library (available at )http://www.boutell.com/gd/

i believe those functions come from the gd lib. so, most likely, you either 1. don't have gd installed, or 2. it's installed, but it's an old ver. and doesn't have those functions in it. that's my guess...

downloading the latest ver. of php will include the latest gd lib (2.0) with it.

Thanks guys, I have PHP_4.3.1 running as a module and have just installed GD2. However, although I have uncommented out 'extension=php_gd2.dll' in php.ini I found that I do not have the file php_gd2.dll on the system anywhere. I installed GD2 as a port. But at least now I know a little more where the problem lies. Does *nix systems use DLL files or should php.ini be pointing to another file for gd2?

OK, I have it. I will include the fix for anyone running into this problem when installing on FreeBSD.

When first installing MOD_PHP4 you are prompted on which extensions you require. However, if you don't include an extension and need it later uninstalling and reinstalling will use the same extensions as the first install without porompting again.

To get around this you must uninstall using command 'make deinstall' and the 'make clean'. Then when reinstalled you will be prompted for all extensions again.
