I just finished downloading Mozilla and I'm playing around with it and it seems to me that it's faster then IE... is that just me? Or is it a fact? With a wonderful modem connection ( ) anything that's faster is great.

I'm currently using firebird (just the browser without all the other bits) and i think its great.

I think whether it runs faster depends on how much stuff you've got "attached" to IE. eg., at my parents house, my sisters had downloaded loads of plugins (such as the Yahoo! companion) and this really slowed things down. Then I installed firebird and it ran really quickly. Oh, and they only have a 56k connection.

Here at work, where I am sitting on a 2mb/s line and have only the google taskbar attached to IE, there isn't much difference.

The thing I like best about firebird is the fact that I can view the entire phpbuilder board without scrolling 😃 (btw, you need your monitor set to a 1600 by 1200 resolution)

I miss the google toolbar in mozilla at my home office. The highlight and search features are quite cool...

I've been playing around with it now for an hour or so and I'm really liking it. The only thing I thought that was weird was that it didn't come with a flash plugin. Oh well, it's a great browser.

Well, the tabbed browsing in Mozilla (or Opera for that matter) alone is enough to get me to stop using IE (I often find myself mistakenly middle-clicking on links in IE. argh.).

As far as speed, Mozilla has been benchmarked as "slower" than IE several times.

FYI, it has been discovered that IE "cheats" TCP/IP packets when communicating with IIS servers (drops half of the handshake and just starts sucking data), which can make it seem faster on some sites.

Speed alone however, shouldn't influence your decision, imho. Use whatever browser has the functionality you like. For example, I prefer IE's handling of "View source" in context menus as opposed to Mozilla's implementation (frames are EVIL). But I prefer Mozilla's adherence to web standards (read: W3C) over IE's lame support, especially when it comes to CSS.

The tabs rule! Thanks to you my friend I just discovered it. I thank you :p
