sending e-mail find out what happened to mail

hello:

i have a question about sending e-mail using php..

i am using the mail function to do this..

my mail function is returning true and it seems like it is sending the mail but I am not able to recieve the e-mail on the other end..

is there anywhere on the server i can check weather those mails were actually sent or are they sitting in outbox..

simply put i am looking to find the activity of mails through php where can i find this directory on Linux....

look in your /var/spool/mail/root file with

pico /var/spool/mail/root

and look through there, undelivered or fatal errors will show up there

secondly how to i set up SMTP
meaing tell the mail function to use specified SMTP with user name and password so it can send the mail..

i dont think i have a SMTP set to send the mail..

you should open up your php.ini

pico /etc/php.ini
and do a ctrl-w and type mail function and read about it in there
it is fairly well commented
