With open source DutchPIPE software, web developers can make virtual multi-user environments. Each web page becomes an abstracted environment or location where visitors and other items on the page are visualized. This status is retained as visitors move around. A lot of real-time interaction is possible. The result: Persistent Interactive Page Environments. DutchPIPE uses AJAX and the DOM for the browser - it works without Java, Flash, plug-in or firewall adjustments. On the server, PHP 5 is used.

Some of the possibilities:
Social sites
Build visualized, real multi-user communities, fora and chat rooms. See your buddies wander around.

E-commerce and site assistant applications
Make easy-to-use product and shopping cart pages. Have automated and/or real person site assistants stand by to assist your customers and increase sales.

Game environments
From card games to virtual RPG worlds, DutchPIPE makes it possible.

User areas
Let people make their own "area" - pages, objects, actions, etc., without technical knowledge.

Site monitoring, 'snooping'
Track where people are going and what they are doing. Improve your processes. Be invisible, or run DutchPIPE invisible for visitors. Snoop visitors: see an exact copy of a visitor's browser window, including mouse movements. Beware of the privacy implications!

Developers platform extraordinaire
Persistent state, object-oriented building gives way to a whole new way of developing DOM web applications. In other words...

... Your imagination is the limit!
Hi,

I am building a way of detecting robots, not only by their 'user_agent' but also by their IP.

This is so that you can catch the robots that are anonymous, as well as email harvesting programs, search engines that hide their identity (like altavista).

Just wondering how interested people would be in this, yes or no.

It means you could let some robots view your site (like Google, Yahoo etc ), or stop them altogether (for email harvesting programs, or others that just chew up bandwidth).

I see it working a bit like a 'virus definition', where all the robots are saved into a mysql database, and each time someone identifies a new robot, the info is automatically sent to a central 'robots db' which all users can come to periodically and update their 'robot definitions'.

Let me know.

couldn't you monitor this as a "advanced " online-user type script without monitoring the filtering?

Basically, a text adventure is an adventure game in which you are only given text and must input text to control the game.

This may seem a little boring at first, but I think it is a great format for mobile phones:
-Small size
-Doesn't require constant action, like a side scroller etc, so you can look away for a second and not be "killed." (So you can play while driving, eating, even flying!)
-People already love text messaging with cellphones. Why not play games with text too?

Features I'm thinking about:
-Quick registration
-Anonymous playing (with possible feature to send email with a randomly generated link containing a code that saves progress)
-Progress saving for logged on members
-Pull down menus for actions, such as "Pick Up" or "Use" or "Talk to", with a text box next to it for the user to type in the item/person.
-Puzzles/Riddles
-Inventory

I would appreciate your input and suggestions.

Thanks!

Basically, I made something like that with DutchPIPE (see above) for use on normal webpages + AJAX, and it's open source, so you might want to look into it. Last but not least, it's multi-user. For an example "adventure", see here:
http://dutchpipe.org/dpclient.php?location=/page/square.php

Now, when you enter that page, you are instantly transported into the game as a "guest". If you like you can register. You can use this feature of DutchPIPE, but also chose to require registration, whatever you like.

DutchPIPE has different modes it can operate in. For the masses, it defaults to menus and click actions. Just click on objects or areas in pictures to make stuff happen. However if you select "page chat" from your avatar's menu and then select "tools -> advanced -> command mode" you can type verb noun like commands like "get beer" and "give beer to the drunk man". If you like to make a text adventure, you can make that the default and remove any graphics. Clicking just generates those commands underneath. I was wildly addicted to text adventures in the eighties and especially MUD in the early nineties. It takes a lot of ideas from LP-MUD.

Funnily, DutchPIPE also does sortof what is mentioned in the post above. When a page on my site is indexed, it assigns a special avatar to it, for example a Googlebot avatar, which sticks around for 30 seconds while harvesting the page. It uses a database for that. It doesn't work on IP basis yet, however. E-mail harvesters use a wild array of IP addresses, probably from bot farms. Google has a stable range of IP addresses, but in general there's wild fluctuation. If you only want to allow the big ones, it can work.
But why I am all mentioning this is the following: I found your typical email harvester will come in as Internet Explorer of Firefox with the IP number of someone with a virus or "spyware" on their computer and you will probably never get a hit from ever again. In other words: you'll never know. I learned this from watching an instruction video for spammers on youtube ("you have to know thou enemy", etc.). Only the lame ones come in with User Agent "sssgdg" or "" or fixed IP numbers.

so with my first post I would like to announce a new project.

Sweany

From the Description it sas:
Sweany is a performance-orientated and programmer-friendly MVC framework for PHP. The current downloadable version comes with a bb-code forum and a contact form, both implemented as plugins. These are shipped as examples as there is no documentation yet.

It is released under Gnu GPL

The features are as follows:

* Pages (Model, View Controller based)
* Blocks (Model, View Controller based)
* Layouts (Model, View Controller based)
* Tables (map the database structure)
* Plugins (have Pages, Blocks and Tables)
* Vendors (needs proper testing)
* Helpers (various integrated helper classes)
* Sophisticated HTML Form creation/validation (even automated validation against database entries)
* Supports different languages on the fly (via adding xml files)
* Integrated user management (groups still to come)
* Validator mode
* Syslog (Internal Debug Mode to monitor performance and engine calls)
* Fast core (a single file holds everything to reduce disk loading times... needs to be pushed)

A basic wiki already exists here:
https://github.com/lockdoc/sweany/wiki

And the latest code can be fetched from here:
https://github.com/lockdoc/sweany

If anybody would like to try, commit or feedback, I would be happy.

Best wishes

QB is an extension that let you perform computationally intensive tasks in PHP at much higher speed. What it does is take the Zend Engine opcodes in a PHP function, translates them into opcodes for VM that employs static typing (using type information inside doc comment section). The result runs typically around 10 times faster. With operations like matrix multiplication, the gain is even greater. The added power let you do things that you wouldn't even think about doing because it'd be insanely slow in stock PHP.

The project's main focus is on image manipulation. That's where you often need the high throughput. At the following link you'll find examples of what the extension is capable of:

https://github.com/chung-leong/qb/wiki/Pixel-Bender-Gallery

Most of the effects shown take less than a quarter of a second to apply. The cool part is that these filters are freely available on the web. They work on the front end too, as they are Flash Pixel Bender shaders. If you click on the "Live Demo" link, on one side you'll see what Flash produces (updated as you move the control). On the other side, you see what QB produces.

The code is fairly stable at this point. Until people start using it though it's hard to know how bug-free it is. If you're interested in giving it a test drive, here's the link to the installation instructions:

https://github.com/chung-leong/qb/wiki/Installation

Any feedback is welcomed.

We are in the process of creating a open source persistent browser based web game (PBBG) framework which will have all the features to get you started and let you start developing your unique features without having to write all the basics. We have taken a modular approach, you can use only the modules you want. If you wanted just a forum you could enable only the core, user and forum modules.

We are building our framework using Kohana which is an open source, object oriented (H)MVC web framework built using PHP5 by a team of volunteers that aims to be swift, secure, and small. We are using Kohana 3.3 with many modules, including the following:

1.) ORM is a a powerful Object Relational Mapping (ORM) module that uses the active record pattern and database introspection to determine a model's column information.
2.) Mustache is a template specification we use for our templates, we use Kostache's implementation.

You can download our preview release at https://sourceforge.net/projects/modulargaming/files/ You can view a demo at http://demo.modulargaming.com If you have any questions, bugs or feature requests feel free to post them on the issue tracker at GitHub. https://www.github.com/modulargaming/modulargaming

What's The Latest Version?
The latest version of OpenNotion is currently Alpha. This version is intended to gain feedback from users to help us improve for our initial release and to give potential users a sneak peak πŸ˜‰

While we do have an alpha available for download, the alpha should not be installed on a production server. A disclaimer is visible when you download the software.

At this moment, The OpenNotion group is working hard on a beta release. This will include features such as:

• Usergroups

• Blowfish password encryption

• New MVC framework

Once the beta is released, we expect 1.0.0 to be out within a short period of time πŸ™‚

The OpenNotion Group
