max characters per line

hi all

i want to display a maximum number of charactors per sentence however i dont want to break off during the middle of a word.

this isnt for output to screen but is for output to printer.

is there any way to interpret the return key and then use this as well as an indicator to start a new line?

i sometimes see it as two squares?? (ASCII???)

Wordwrap() is what you're looking for.
I'm not sure how to use a printer for that, but it might be that Windows uses \r\n, *nix uses \n, and Macs use \r, so there's no real way to tell what a "new line" is. The printer might only be looking for one of those things, and it prints the extra as an ASCII character (your "two squares").

wordwrap will definetely not work for this. i experienced a similar problem with doing the cheque numbers to words thing but this time round i am just working with plain text and therefore have no need to return on a new line because of a given word.

if i can set a max number of charactors per line this is better then tell the program to increase the Y coordinate when i have passed x number of charactors and the breakoff point in the sentence is not in the middle of a word.

give us an example of the words and when you want it to break to new line, i am just confused as to why wordwrap won't work

the problem is that i am not outputting to screen therefore the use of wordwrap is pointless to me.

i am making use of a function called printer_draw_text which takes an x and y coordinate.

starting a new line essentially means incrementating the y cordinate by 100.

see the manual for more info on this function.

please rewrite what you have done to suit the printer function above
