changing form elements on the fly?

is this possible in php or is a third party app needed?

basically i have a user who is adding a new painting to an art website. There are 2 pages, 'SCULPTURES' and 'PAINTINGS'

firstly they choose which page the pic will go on, either sculptures or paintings

next they choose the catagory of sculpture/painting (i.e. nudes, still life etc). I want to stop someone entering a SCULPTURE catagory(i.e. clay or whatever) for a painting.

I could refresh the page but i was wondering if there is an immediate fix, i've seen it happening on sites such as http://www.sophos.com/ when you sign up for the 30 day trial.

no third party app, no PHP, waht you're looking for is javacript...........something like:

function change_select(type) {
if (type=="sculpt") { // do the sculpt stuff... 
    document.<formname>.<selectbox name>.write(""); 
    // to kill the select.
    var value1 = "whatever the type is";
    var value2 = "etc...";
    document.<formname>.<selectbox name>.write("<option value=\""+value1+"\">"+value1+"</option>");
//etc.....
} elseif (type=="paint") {
//do the same stuff but for paintings
}

just change <formname> to the name of your form, and <selectbox name> with the name o fht eselect containing the types.
