sending variable through link to frame

Alright, i have been trying to find a nice way of sending a variable via a link from one frame to another. The page is going to be an admin control panel so i want it to be secure. Anway this is what i have devised so far:

<form method="post" action="adminpage.php" name="mainform" target="body"> 
<input type="hidden" name="blark" value="listallmembers"><br>
<a href="#" onclick="document.mainform.submit();">Click me to submit this form</a> 
</form>

but i'm not really liking it. First off it messes up the spacing around it something horrible, throwing off the links around it a couple inches (i have read this is due to the <form> tag...). and secondly it uses javascript, which i would like to avoid if possible. So the question is, does anyone have any recommendations on a better way to do this? or a way to keep it from messing with the spacing?

On which action do you want to send a variable? When clicking a link, submitting a form, loading a page, .... ???

When clicking the link. its going to be a list of links ie, show all members, change member group. etc

I guess you could use the good ol'

<a href="foo.php?id1=value1&id2=value2..." target="framename">label</a>

you could encrypt the id that is being sent with a function like md5()

Yeah, i guess i'll use that as a last resort... i'd rather not have anything in the url though... anyone know a better way to do it? or a way to make it so the <form> tag wont mess with the spacing?

Perhaps by using sessions. So your variables won´t be visible in the link. Just my 2 pence.

Again, using a encrypting function like md5() to encrypt critical information that is being sent through the URL is actually pretty secure..

It all depends on the structure of the specific HTML-page.. There offcourse are multiple mechanisms for performing such actions!

I don't understant how the form tag could mess up the spacing.. Could you include the source of your webpage here? If you do so I will take a look at it 🙂

I know md5 is pretty secure, i use it for my passwords. my only concern with using it here is i dont want it to be bookmarkable as this is an admin page...

OKay everyone, in case you were curious you can use the style sheet:

form{display:inline;}

to fix the weird spacing that the <form> tag causes.
