Formating Data in Word/Excel thru PHP

I am trying to create reports thru PHP and My SQL. I was wondering if i can create these formatted reports in Word/Excel using PHP. Has anyone worked on this or has any idea on how to tackle it? Please help!!!

I know there is some software for a microsoft sql database that generates nice database reports...its called Crystal Reports, I dont know if it works with MySQL, but it might. it would be a lot more trouble then it would be worth to figure out how to format something for word or excel correctly
