navigation for member directory w/large mysql member DB

I have a large member DB and a directory referencing it. The directory is currently split into 21 pages displaying 30 records on each page. I want to use one page.

| 1-30 | 31-60 | etc. |

Looked through the messages here and found way too many, none of which directly help with my issue. Any ideas on how to simplify/improve the directory?
