extract and index urls into a table on the same page

Hello All,

I've been scouring the web looking for a script that would extract links from a web page and create a handy hyperlinked table at the end of the page with the links.

So the text of the document would be replaced with:

Test paragraph where there is a link [1] here. And potentially another link [2] here.

And then at the end of the page, a links section.

[1] http://www.www.com/test.html
[2] http://www.zzz.com/alpha.htm

I've seen something like this in some online documentation which is what I'd like to use it for, but I don't know what generated it.

The webmaster edition of web2print (http://www.printer-friendly.com) does it, but I don't want to shell out the $32 dollars for just a piece of the script as I don't need/want the printing part.

Anyone know of a php script that does this or something that is a lot cheaper?

you could probably just use string functions to scour the document, find urls, and store them in an array, put some value in their place, and write a list at the end...it shouldnt be TOO hard... it might be a bit of a pain in the ass, but basically straightforward...

I figured it would have to be with regular expressions (something I'm still trying to master), so I was hoping to find an existing script.

I'm looking over the string functions now. Thanks.

Any other suggestions are welcome as well.

Mabey you could do something like this.

$link = "[[:alpha:]]+://[^<>[:space:]]+[[:alum:]/]";
foreach($link as $links)
{
echo "$links";
}

Not sure how that will turn out,

Well, it won't be how you expected. You're just setting it as a string. However, from the syntax of this string, I'm assuming you want to do a regular expression. You probably want ereg_*() or spliti().

I believe that the original code had the ereg_replace in front of it. But this, in his case, won't work. The original code was to take any url in the form [url]http://[/url] bla bla and turn it into a link to that url. If you can think of a good ereg_ to put in front, then it should work for him, correct? I believe that possibly the ereg would work.

Im not sure that he wants to take something that looks like a link and actually make it into a link...

From my understanding, he wants to make something printable...and make a sort of footnote effect, in essence, everywhere in a certain document a url appears replace it with some sort of notation, in his case [1], [2], and so on, and take the link that was removed, and put it at the bottom of the page with the same reference next to it...

at the bottom

[1] : [url]http://....[/url]
[2] : [url]http://....[/url]

Theres no point in making them clickable if this is a "printable" version of the same page

Right, I do want them clickable. I just referenced the printer-friendly code (web2print at www.printer-friendly.com) because that's a script that does this url cross-reference/footnote feature.

Clickable or not, the issue/question is what to use to extract the links and it looks like the concensus is ereg* or some form. That's what I expected and am rather poor at regular expressions, which leads me back to another one of my original questions. Does anyone know of any good scripts or examples?

You can use what I wrote to extract all url's in the site, then turn them into links.

Just put this code where you want the links to show up at.

$link = ereg("[[:alpha:]]+://[^<>[:space:]]+[[:alum:]/]");  

foreach($link as $links)  

{  

echo "$links";  

}
