i'm running a website with a database that allow users to submit and search song profiles. it does not include any mp3's or music files.
it'll just show you the song's genre, label, year and beat per minute. the site is made for dj's to look up a song's pitch.

i don't want the riaa coming at me and trying to take my life savings like they did to that college student... and now that even lyrics are becoming illegal, i dunno what kind of info about songs you can post anymore...

If your website isn't legal, that is pretty bad. Down with the RIAA. It is completely ridiculous the way the RIAA and other organizations are "helping" the music industry.

Being in a band, I do understand where bands and musicians are coming from about piracy. However, I DO think they take it way too seriously. Most bands make money from live shows... so if more people are downloading your music then buying your records, you’re going to sell more tickets to shows... and thus make more money! Wow!

I'm sorry, I know that's not really related to your website, but I had to get that off my chest. :o :p

yea... the riaa does suck. i wouldn't be needing to ask this stupid question if it wasn't for them.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe it's perfectly legal. I think that's going a step further than they need to, however, I (and others) think that about half the stuff the RIAA has done.

I don't know if anything has changed in the past ten years in this regards, but that generally wasn't the case then. Live tours were/are just in support of the album. I never organized a tour, so I'm definitely not the authority, but what I have heard was that touring was a promotional expense.

Why should it be illegal? You're not offering any copyrighted materials like mp3 files or lyrics (yes, I heard those weren't allowed either), so, nothing to worry about I think 🙂

Getting 30.000 euro for an hour of stageplay is a very ludicrous Promotional "expense" :p hehe

I wouldn't think you are giving a3way any sensative material so you should be okay - I would do as much research as you can though just to protect yourself.
