Limiting form submissions

I'm trying to build a race entry form for my web site that will count how many times the form has been submitted. When it reaches a certain number, I want the form to become "not active" is there anyway to do this with .php or is this a javascript question? Any ideas would be wonderful.

well, if the count is based on lots of different users posting, you can use fopen to open a file, that will write a number in, then it will read the number and increment it and write the new number.. if you are talking about limiting each individual user to posting you can maybe set a cookie or write a data file with their ip address as the filename..

well, either way this should work

im assuming you are submitting the form data to either a file or a database, create a varible that adds to a total value stored in either medium, and once a max is reached, rather then write the form data, display an error that says the max submits has been reached...
