A few months ago I rolled my own script to print out how many years, months, days, hours and minutes had passed since a particular event. This event was stored as a timestamp in the MySQL database. It took my some time to get it working as I wished, and it went along fine for awhile and then began to misbehave...... my logic was flawed!

The pain has eased now, and its time to revisit this personal project and make it work.
Is there a pretty straight forward aproach to pulling a date from a MySQL database and printing out how many years, months, days has passed?
Anyone have any pointers?

Firslty dont use it as a timestamp. Make it INT(11)

And have time() in php to put it into the feild.

From there its maths.

Looks like I found my answer using PERIOD_DIFF() in MySQL and letting the database handle the calulations...... any comments on pros and cons? I am flexable at this point, but would like to use the most efficient.
