having a bit of a problem with <img src=""> and str_replace

in my script i have this

$thumb = str_replace("_", "%5F", $thumb);
$thumb = str_replace(".JPG", "%2EJPG", $thumb);

now this does it's job in the src... say that i have this as my file....
<img src="http://www.whatever.com/images/1_.JPG.jpg">

well for some odd reason, when you try to load taht exact url above, which has changed to
<img src="http://www.whatever.com/images/1%5F%2EJPG.jpg">

as expected and you try to copy and paste it into the browswer window... it gives you
http://www.whatever.com/images/1_.JPG.jpg

why would it do that? any dieas?

here's an example fo one that's been changed, yet doesn't work

i'm really lost on this one... if i go to thumbs/ directory and click on the file, and it looks 100% the same as the above, it does load, but no other way

well i got the _ to work, but i cannot for the life of me get this to work

whatever12312.JPG.jpg

and

whatever12312.jpg.jpg

and it is not.

if i change the file name to whatever12312.jpg and do so in teh database too, it does work.

however there's 100+ files that need to be changed if i do it that way, there has to be an easy way out 😃
