I have been haveing session problems, i cant even get this code to work

<?PHP
session_start();
$test = "hello world";
session_register('test');
echo "<a href=\"2.php\">2</a>";
?>

it returns this error

Try setting your sessions like this then:
$_SESSION['var']; = $var

can I set the session vars like this on most php versions, or does it only work with my funky config?

session_register() only doesn't works for you because your globals must be turned off. $_SESSION[]; is a superglobal meaning it will work with globals turned on or off. If you were to turn on your globals then session_register() would work also.

so if someone had global turned on would this still work?

$_SESSION['var'] = "whatever";

And how come i cant access the session vars inside a function without first haveing to write

global $_SESSION;

But i still cannot access a session var from inside a function.
