Two tables in $query?

Okay, I have two differents tables, that hold pretty much the same information.

One is called 'story' the other 'gamerecap'.

Story, is just general news updates, with the fields id, headline, byline, article, author, and timestamp.

Gamerecap is very similar, but it is reserved for post game stories and include the following fields, id, headline, byline, article, author, timestamp, and boxscore.

On my index.php the middle of my page is reserved for the latest story with the headline, author, byline, and link to full article (story.php?id=x). I was curious about possibly getting the latest story, regardless of table, (I'm not sure if this is possible). Right below that are the 5 most recent stories.

I want to keep gamerecap seperate of story, because on my schedule page, I can easily update scores, stats, etc, because the id's for gamerecap will be 1-82 (82 games in the season).

Also, on my index page, on the far right, I have tables setup for the latest scores, stats, leaders, etc, with links to the most recent games box score and game recap.

What I need to do is find a way to post the most recent article (either story or gamerecap) as the main story. Also, to include game recaps in the 5 most recent below the main story and in the news archive page.

I'm sorry if this is confusing, it's hard to explain. Thanks for any help!

You can kind of see what I'm talking about here. Right now, only stories exists, and are the only thing on the page.

Are you sure it's not:

select s.id, s.headline, g.whatever FROM story AS s, gamerecap AS g ... etc.

???

Or am I getting my SQL languages mixed up? LOL

OK, how 'bout that? Righto, except I think you can do without 'AS', IIRC...which I don't sometimes, obviously.

Once again, getting up at 4 a.m. and posting at midnight is NOT a Good Thing(TM).

Dale, trying getting up at 8am, going to happy hour with friends from 6-9, then hanging out drinking more on the porch for a couple hours, then posting on here at 2am. 🙂

Anyways, restructured my table.

Trying to figure out if I can have 2 or there WHERE's.

FROM table WHERE type = '1', live = '1', id = '$id'";

of course you can. However, you must use AND:

WHERE foo = 'bar' AND usr = 'drunk' AND ... etc.

You may want to check out the MySQL Documentation -- it has a pretty good tutorial that should help you out.
