I agree with the general organisation as set out by the_myth... however if it was to be completed as a modular application, with "bolt-on" parts that would do additional functions I think it would be easier for more people to get involved and add their $0.2 as Buzzly put it...
There needs to be a starting point for this, not necessarily in terms of importance, but something to start the ball rolling.
I believe jstarkey said that their was an inbuilt censor within the forum itself, if we can start off with that and make the ModBot (has anyone secured that name by the way ?? - Just to stop someone else starting to use it....) start to scan for profanities, and correct those posts, at least we would have started the post scanning.
Then start looking at the actual content within the post, instead of looking for regular profanity words, checking for key words that relate directly to functions within PHP (again a reg exp thing) and provide links as suggested in my first post.
Once these two areas have been developed and are working to some degree of competence and providing good links (to both PHP and MYSQL) then would be the time to look forward again and see about more interation towards the AI thing.
Whilst I see the AI as a definate step in the right direction I feel that there would need to be a firm area from which we could advance, rather that starting to aim right at the top.
Any ancilliary functions, such as shotgun / double posting or bumping (as comical note suggesting other ways to get your post noticed, as well as providing a link to Buzzlys ettiquete might be an idea) could be attempted along the way, as soon as the cyclic nature of post scanning was completed.
Does anyone agree with this plan ?
Of course we would need cooperation from the likes of the admin (jstarkey ??) for in depth information on the working of the forum, but no doubt he already knew this... :p
Hope it has given you some food for thought,
