how to display child tables?

In Dreamweaver MX, I am building an app which originally was made up of 2 MS Access databases. In Access a child or sub form is displayed which is linked to the parents tables "customer ID", and this sub form is display in table view which is editable. Is there a way for the same displa and functionality to be achieved using PHP / MySQL / Web technologies?

Hi Brian, can you give me a more detailed example?

In MySQL you have the following type of layout:

• Database
  • Tables
  • Fields

You can link fields and tables together if that's what you mean, but SQL is rather different to Access.

Example:

• MySite
  • Users
  • Name
  • Address
  • Links
  • Name
  • Link

Hi Chris

I have learnt how to write join commands for record sets, so that part is not an issue. It's the displaying of the child information on a page, in a format similar to table view in MS Access. This is a linked table with its information embeded (for want of a better word), in the main form / page. This table view displays rows and columbs as per expected, though MS Access also gives you the option to edit any field directly. I need to be able to a) display the linked table in a table format (which must be scrollable, perhaps using IFRAME for eg) and b) directly editable.

Does this make my problem clearer?

Yes, if you want it directly editable then call each field inside the html something like:

$name['$x']

or something similar then use an array to recreate all the tables if that makes sense.
