PHP Upload Script Problems

For the past few weeks I've been toying with uploading files using PHP and POST on Apache. I've got it running really well but am having problems with large files. It seems anything over about 6 megs makes the script die.

What it seems to do is upload the file completely and then it claims that it has timed out. It says that its max_execution time has been exceeded and so, even after waiting for the file to upload, it just craps out. No matter how high I set the number it has the same effect.

All the server and PHP upload limits are set high enough and everything seems cosher but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

are you setting the execute time and max upload size in php.ini?

Absolutely...
They're set at ridiculously hight values. The max upload size is something like 100 megs and just to see if it would work I set the max execution time to 10000 which was plenty of time for the upload to complete. Even after about six minutes it still gave me the max execution time reached error.
