Logging System

I'm very green to PHP, but want to learn. I'm currently working on a Fishing Log system that would enable people to enter specific info regarding a fishing trip and store it in an SQL database. Then other users can search by criteria and find specific reports, or logs.

I've created this in Microsoft Access for individual use, but want to do this on a web server for everyone to use, because some do not have Microsoft Access.

This is a free project, and will be a free service to all.

It seems fairly simple, although I don't know everything that goes into building it.

Can anyone get me on the right track?

My suggestion is to start with some basic PHP tutorials, such as the ones here on PHPBuilder or perhaps at http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/programming/php/ . I also recommend checking out the extensive and extremely usefull documentation at http://www.php.net/manual/en/

MySQL is the best database system to use with PHP, and if you have some experience SQL and Databases, it will be that much easier.

Overall, I suppose it comes down to what you know about programming already. PHP for me was easy to pick up because I had been a Visual Basic programmer for about 2 years, and had some (read - very little) experience with databases and web programming. However, the learning curve won't necessarily be that easy for everyone else.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check them out. I was hoping to find a script somewhere that I would be able to edit to my liking and requirements. I learn better by re-modeling things than trying to do them from scratch.

I plan to try and learn PHP though.

I've search Hotscripts and phpresource, but couldn't find anything similar to what I was looking for..
