Believe it or not, but after 6 months of using PHP, I have never once used OOP... Can anyone help me with this problem? Its quite confusing to me, why would someone want to use "$a = obj(blah)
$a->blah"

"function();"

And is there a good online tutorial for this? My friend was going to teach me, but I kind of haven't seen him... And I want to start working on my project soon (RPG)

Lot's of people have been programing in php for much longer periods of time and don't use oop. You are not alone.

There are several tutorials that describe how to use objects with php. But not very many that discuss why you should objects.

Chapter 1 of this free downloadable book is an excellent introduction to objects. It happens to be written for C++ but most of it applies to php.

Would it be a good idea to put all my configuring stuff, and just about everything else in classes (OOP) - then have another config file with functions that contain the controls?

I.E.

have a class named dance

then have another config file with a function of it

function dance1(var1, var2) {
$a = new dance;
$a->controls;
etc.
}

it depends... if u wanna have very easy access use a function that wraps the class.... however, actually it's not the best idea, especially with frequently called classes coz your function will recreate the object everytime u call it. When u code good classes, there should be no need to wrap em with some function.

The reason I ask is because I don't like the idea of typing 3 lines when I could type one word... When I could get the same affect from both

ok but notice that the additional function calls consume (a little bit) of cpu time. It's not a problem when your functions r only called once or twice, but when u have frequently used function, the calls and -more important- the recreation of the object in the function will make things run alot slower.
What's so bad about typing 1 or 3 lines of code?? When u wanna save time when codin, i assume that your function r called rather often. So then u have the problem i talk about - and when u gotta call the function several times, it's actually one line at the beginning when the object is set up and one line for every function call - u don't even have to type a lot more.
