mysql datetime question

is it possible to send to mysql and have mysql store a larger datetime string to include other parameters like timezones and AM/PM ???...

such as: 000-00-00 00:00:00 AM EST

i would think i could just change it in to default, but i do not know the correct parameters. Thanks!

maybe u could store it as a string and then convert it to date-time values in php.

there must be a better way though

Maybe you could just insert all datetime fields in UTC, then perform timezone translations etc. in PHP
