php scripts in Linux

is it the same writing a php script for windows and for linux???

I have a script in which required user to input filename and character length and it will print the requested length word out, it is running fine in windows but when i upload it to a Linux machine using ftp, nothing is printed out..........

PHP is very user friendly language to Linux and WIN. Actually i not quite clear of the problem that you face. Does your linux install with APACHE or MYSQL. If not u have to xtra install the packages from linux (3 discs).
Alternative, u can test ur mozilla page by typing http://localhost
does anything come out? U should see an Apache page.
