uploading all files from a directory

Hi,

Many problems with my new site resolved, on to the next task.

The old version of the site (see it at [url]http://www.oxygen-online.org,[/url] I didn't make this, so no apologies for the colours... 😉)
It had a rather useful photogallery, which I'm attempting to create, with one particular function. A user could specify a directory on their computer, and upload all the files in that directory. I can't figure out how to do this. I've worked out how to upload files, but can't figure out how to upload directories. This would prevent the tedium of having to upload 50<x<100 photos manually (or requiring FTP access). I can then run my functions to create the thumbnails on that temp directory (need to think of a way of solving timeout problems... takes about 0.3 sec for a 1600*1200 photo, which means more than 100 photos are going to give it a headache!)

So, my question is, how can I upload a whole directory

You can't. There's no way to specify every file within a directory. The best you could do is a bunch of file fields.

But the script I've used already does... very odd... will have to look into it... If I find an answer I'll post it back here. Not that I would be doubting your unquestionable genius 😉

I'd be interested in hearing how this is done also; the use of Java may be a clue...

I confess, I had been fooled... I read "insert directory" on my gallery to "upload whole directory of pictures from users computer". In fact, it meant upload photos from a folder on the website, and I'd already worked out how to do that! Mordecai, your infallibility remains unquestionable, many apologies 😉

I came here to ask the same question.

Seems that the limiting factor is that HTML is only equiped with one tool for access to the client's filesystem, the file input tag.

Perhaps there is a java solution somewhere?

Edit: If I find something, I'll post it.
