[Resolved] Dreamweaver MX and PHP includes

My question is does anyone know if its possible to make DWMX view included HTML files in WYSIWYG view even if they are outside the "parent" file's directory?

I noticed that if you have a parent file, and the included file is inside the same directory within your DWMX site window then Dreamweaver will display that included content in design view!!! But if the include file is outside that directory (like one level up) it will not. 😕

Anyone know a workaround this?

I know this topic might be in the wrong forum, so if that is the case just remove it. :o

It is the wrong forum because DWMX will not display php includes at all. As for html includes, if i remember i used this some time back and it mattered if you used virtual or a file type include. You might want to play around with those settings and see what you get. I would even start a new blank page have have all four on the page and see what displays correctly.

inside the directory using virtual include
inside the directory using file include
outside the directory using virtual include
outside the directory using file include

Whoops. I was wrong. So it'll only display included HTML, but not PHP. 🙁

I get it now. But I don't know what a virtual include is.

If your server is an Apache web server, choose Virtual. (This is the default choice in Dreamweaver.) In Apache, Virtual works in all cases, while File works only in some cases.

If your server is a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), find a new hosting company, (just kidding) choose File. (Virtual works with IIS only in certain specific circumstances.) Unfortunately, IIS won’t allow you to include a file in a folder above the current folder in the folder hierarchy, unless special software has been installed on the server. If you need to include a file from a folder higher in the folder hierarchy on an IIS server, ask your system administrator if the necessary software is installed. Blah blah blah headache headache headache.

For other kinds of servers, or if you don’t know what kind of server you’re using, ask your system administrator which option to use.
