Comparing Today to MySQL date field

I have a "date" field in my MySQL database in the format 0000-00-00 which corresponds to an event in a calendar. on the front page of my site I have a section for upcoming events that is just text links. I leave the old events in the calendar. I need to compare whether the event found is greater than todays date because then it would be an upcoming event not an event thats already past. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could possibly look at DATEDIFF() which returns the difference between two dates.

SELECT ... WHERE datefield >= CURRENT_DATE

Curdate worked perfect

I ended up using

mysql_query("Select * from events where event_date > curdate()");
