backup mysql tables and data

Hi all, i am in the process of building a database but i wanted to know what is the best way of backing it up? Someone mentioned to me that i could use excel to make the tables and import to mysql, how would i do this? Also could this technque be applied to the actual data to be stored in the tables?

If you have phpMyAdmin, it's easy, just export.
If not, I believe you need shell access or you can write a script to get table names and data.

I backed up an excel worksheet to a CSV text file and it was really easy to dump it into a db in mySQL using phpmyadmin....and I'm just a newbie...

is there any way of using the CSV file without using phpmyadmin?

there should be because if phpmyadmin can do it you should be able to do it with out it...see the mySQL manual.pdf...it's answered all of my cmd line questions thus far
