Previous & Next Links ... the saga continues ...

Hi People ... ok, so I've looked and found a couple of tutorials on inserting "Previous" & "Next" links in relation to my RecordSet ... but it's NOT working!!!

I have set up a PHP staffDetails page, that pulls information from a database. That works great. I then wanted the user to be able to select Previous or Next on the staff list.

I have tried several ways, using the "Server Behaviours" section (DreamweaverMX) and selecting "RecordSet Paging; Move To Next Page" then it tells me I have to add a repeating region to make it show (which none of the Dreamweaver help files specify!) ... so I do that, but when I click on the link, it just stays on the same page. It doesn't move on! Agh ...

ANYWAY, to cut a LONG (very long) story short, I got this code to work:

<a href="staffdetail.php?StaffID=<?php echo $row_rsStaffDetails['StaffID'] - 1 ?>"" class="smalltext">Previous</a>

And that's working ... but obviously becoz it has no limitations, when it get's to the first data entry ... it still goes to -1 ... which makes the page display ... well, not much! 🙂

Can someone help me a) setup a limitation so that it doesn't go under 1 and doesn't go over 20, AND b) help me understand why the Server Behaviour doesn't work? Do I need to make a seperate RecordSet? ... Thank for ALL your help!!!!

As for server behavior, I've no clue what you even mean.

As for your code, just use a conditional statement:

if ($pageid >1) {
  echo("<a href=\"staffdetail.php?StaffID=\"".($row_rsStaffDetails['StaffID'] - 1)."\" class=\"smalltext\">Previous</a> - ");
}
if ($pageid <20) {
  echo("<a href=\"staffdetail.php?StaffID=\"".($row_rsStaffDetails['StaffID'] + 1)."\" class=\"smalltext\">Next</a>");
}
?>

Hey Man that's heaps for the quick reply!!!

I put that code in ... and it didn't work. When I put my mouse over the link, in the status bar it reads: staffdetail.php?StaffID=

and it doesn't put the next or previous ID in place.

???

Thanks, I'll upload the PHP file soon (just downloading at the moment) ...
