Need to build discussion forum in linux

Has anyone ever built a discussion board with linux/apache and using PHP. Any guidance is suggested.

There's a free phorum for free and it's easy to use.

My advice would be, dont reinvent the wheel... Find a good free one you like, or spend a few bucks... I think you will find it is less expensive to find one.

Personally I like VBulletin, but it is kind of expensive...
