[Resolved] Linux Terminal & PHP

Hey guys I'm running Red Hat Linux 9 and am aiding a friend in building a script that will make a linux user based on the given input. For example, if the user gave a username stored in $user and a password stored in $pass, it would go through the Linux terminal and actually create a user $user with password $pass. My only idea would be to use exec(), but I don't know how. Does anyone know how this can be accomplsihed? Thanks for any help.

Unless your webserver is running as root (I hope it's not), this won't work.

Why would you want to do this with php?

The problem is in defining the password. Look at the newusers batch file. (/usr/sbin/newusers I believe.)

Note, this is dangerous, you probably shouldn't do it, might make your machine hackable etc...

Note you'll need to make a copy of it that only your webserver can run, and chmod 4775 it with ownership set to root as well.

Well guys thanks for the advice I didn't know that it could be this dangerous so I'll just have him do it manually.
