Complicated Date Problem

I have an ODBC database which I am pulling information from with PHP. The ODBC DB saves record dates as YYYYXXX where XXX is the three digit DAY of YEAR.

In other words, January 1, 2003 would be 2003001 and december 31, 2003 is 2003365.

I need to pull averages of records from specific date spans (Both months and quarters), EXCLUDING weekends and holidays.

How do I know which days are not weekdays? How do I know the total number of Weekdays in the timespan?

I hate dates.....not less she's a redhead of course 🙂

First off, I work with mysql so i can not solve the poblem in a query(You could get the data in a mysql query though so you may be able to with odbc but i do not know).
Query for the data between the dates that you are looking for: date("z", mktime(start date)) gets you day of year for your start date and the same format for the end date.
Then while through the resulting data disregarding days where date("w", mktime(date)) = 0 or 6;
maybe not super elegant, but i think it will work.
