PHP and SSL

Hey guys,

I was just wondering a couple things about PHP and (and?) SSL interaction.

Does this work?
What if say.. John Doe goes to http://www.site.com.

Is there some function (php or not) to check and if it's not under https, that it'll refresh as it?

Or anything?

check this variable : $_SERVER["SERVER_PORT"]
if it is 80, user is using http
if it is 443, user is using https
